Fascia: Strolling Under The Skin
Fascia is the all pervasive collagenous fibered connective tissue that holds our body together. It is designed in a way that it can adapt to movement and still make sure all body parts still return to their original form. Thus known as the organ of form. It is made up of collagen, ground substance water and fat which work together to make the ‘sliding system’ — the body’s interconnected system of loose connective tissue. It can become deformed in an aberrant way causing pain in joints, muscles, poor movement patterns and aweful posture. Take a look at these clips from the video “Strolling Under The Skin” by Dr. Jean Claude Guimberteau, a plastic and hand surgeon. All the images are from living tissue giving us an unprecedented view of what is sliding under our skin.
