A new genetics based study on mice sheds light on at least part of the reason for the insulin resistance that can come from diets high in high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), a sweetener found in most sodas and many other processed foods.

Fructose is much more readily metabolized to fat in the liver than glucose is, and in the process can lead to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. NAFLD in turn leads to hepatic insulin resistance and type II diabetes. A very simple process.

Now lets make some important distinctions about sugar.

Fructose is found in fruits. High fructose corn syrup is derived from corn using harsh chemical methods that involve the poison sulfuric acid!

Glucose comes from the digestion of vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes (and dairy products) that provide the starches the liver will use in manufacturing glucose, or blood sugar. The brain only eats glucose so the liver will store all extra glucose as glycogen locally and fat globally.

Sucrose is table sugar and is a blend of 50% fructose and 50% glucose. The sucrose is bonded together chemically and must be broken down by the digestive tract. HFCS is a blend of 55% fructose and 45% glucose. The Corn Refiners Association argue that both products are so similar in composition that they both react the same in the body.

High fructose corn syrup is simply a kind of corn sugar. It has the same number of calories as sugar and is handled similarly by the body.

This is completely WRONG! HFCS is a blend of sugars and not bonded like sucrose so instead of the body having to break down the fructose and glucose to be absorbed independently – the body has an immediate reaction to the fructose, spiking uric acid in the blood. Uric acid has been shown to be involved in high blood pressure, fatty liver disease, high triglycerides in blood, kidney disease and insulin resistance. So 70% of the fructose goes directly to the liver when ingested and rapid absorption in the liver occurs, toxicity increases quicker in the blood stream within minutes of ingestion and the liver suffers. HFCS is the major cause of fatty liver disease.

And let us remember the effects fructose has on the level of low density lipoproteins (LDL) that clog your arteries.

How does the new sugar tax play into this now?
The sugar tax is a triple tax on the consumer – the tax they pay normally on their food, the new tax, and the tax on their health. I can’t see how the secondary tax is going to cut into the billions spent on treating the diseases that come with the overuse of these poisions, I mean products. The absurdity of the sugar tax is that the makers of these products are subsidized by the government with our own tax dollars to create these cheap poisons. Why are the makers being rewarded and the consumers being punished? I believe the native people called it Koyaanisqatsi or life out of balance. The powers that be will always make the best decisions for themselves and so the wrong the decisions for the common good. Rise up plebeans.
