Genetically Modified Foods Stink

10 Reasons why GM foods should be boycotted, from Dr. Mercola.

GM foods won’t solve the food crisis
A 2008 World Bank report concluded that increased biofuel production (crops grown for fuel rather than food) is the major cause of the increase in food prices. GM giant Monsanto has been at the heart of the lobbying for biofuels — while profiting enormously from the resulting food crisis and using it as a PR opportunity to promote GM foods!

GM crops do not increase yield potential
Despite the promises, GM has not increased the yield potential of any commercialized crops. In fact, studies show that the most widely grown GM crop, GM soy, has suffered reduced yields.

GM crops increase pesticide use
U.S. government data shows that in the U.S., GM crops have produced an overall increase, not decrease, in pesticide use compared to conventional crops.

There are better ways to feed the world
A major UN/World Bank-sponsored report compiled by 400 scientists and endorsed by 58 countries concluded that GM crops have little to offer global agriculture and the challenges of poverty, hunger, and climate change, because better alternatives are available.

Other farm technologies are more successful
Integrated Pest Management and other innovative low-input or organic methods of controlling pests and boosting yields have proven highly effective, particularly in the developing world.

GM foods have not been shown to be safe to eat
Genetic modification is a crude and imprecise way of incorporating foreign genetic material into crops, with unpredictable consequences. The resulting GM foods have undergone little rigorous and no long-term safety testing, but animal feeding tests have shown worrying health effects.

Stealth GMOs in animal feed — without consumers’ consent
Meat, eggs and dairy products from animals raised on the millions of tons of GM feed imported into Europe do not have to be labeled. Some studies show that if GM crops are fed to animals, GM material can appear in the resulting products, and that the animals’ health can be affected.

GM crops are a long-term economic disaster for farmers
A 2009 report showed that GM seed prices in America have increased dramatically, cutting average farm incomes for U.S. farmers growing GM crops.

GM and non-GM cannot co-exist
GM contamination of conventional and organic food is increasing. An unapproved GM rice that was grown for only one year in field trials was found to have extensively contaminated the U.S. rice supply and seed stocks. In Canada, the organic oilseed rape industry has been destroyed by contamination from GM rape. In Spain, a study found that GM maize “has caused a drastic reduction in organic cultivations of this grain and is making their coexistence practically impossible”.

You can’t trust GM companies
The big biotech firms pushing their GM foods have a terrible history of toxic contamination and public deception. GM is attractive to them because it gives them patents that allow monopoly control over the world’s food supply. They have taken to harassing and intimidating farmers for the “crime” of saving patented seed or “stealing” patented genes — even if those genes got into the farmer’s fields through accidental contamination by wind or insects.

Skull Lateral

AN INTEGRATIVE APPROACH TO TRAUMA

Restore the elasticity in the longitudinal and peripheral system of the CNS in the spinal fluid so it is floating (Archimedean Float – when any object is placed in water there is an upward buoyancy that diminishes the weight of the brain to 40-50 grams, spinal cord has zero degrees of tension)

• Can’t separate the transmission of forces of CNS to peripheral nervous system. Its one unit. Pons Cord Tract (PCT) must be elastic and this is what we need to fix if this is lacking
• Mesencephalon (Midbrain suspended on tentorium), Pons, Medulla included in PCT

A typical duration of trauma is 50-90 msecs – too short for compensatory mechanisms
as collision duration decreases – decreased risk of injury
• Shock wave (vibrations) have good transmission in dense media such as bones, hard organs, liquid compartments (CSF within cranial vault, bladder or spleen may rupture if filled with fluid)
• Liver exerts about .8 kg of force on coronary ligament (weighs about 4kgs). Can increase to 80kg of pressure in a 60 mph collision
• Brain should have about 40 grams of pressure on arachnoid structures to cranial periosteum can increase to 4kgs in impact

Note: These traumas must be felt with hands (not perceptible on MRI or CT scan).
• Traumas are cumulative and there is less ability for compensation over time

Fluid in sinuses in the brain and the CSF is in the arachnoid structures

Can feel 4 levels:
• bone, sutures, membranes, and encephalon
• Equilibrium of the tentorium needs to adapt to brain with tensional forces in movement, bending, etc
• Don’t dream when palpating, you need to be at the correct interface to find that level to palpate the vertex – where does this attraction line take you.
• If you are too light in your pressure, you are getting involved in the emotional state of the body, if you are too heavy you will be on the working level
viscerocranial junction

Listening from the Vertex of the cranium what direction does the pull go:
1. Right or Left?
2. Anterior or Posterior?
3. Length – Superficial or Deep?
4. Type of STOP
Bone – Short listening with a sudden stop.
Suture – Same depth, slightly deeper then bone. Glide longer then bone, sudden stop.
Membrane – Deep listening, long listening with a progressive stop.
Encephalon – Deep inside, longest listening, endlessly attracted.

Line up the PCT so they are in a neutral position. This requires legs straight and possibly bringing head lower then table.
• Inductions: Treatments
• Follow the listening, active on the therapist’s part; follow slightly at the barrier at the end of listening.

Stop Structural Integration from Becoming a Type of Massage

February 15, 2010

Calling all Structural Integrators and those who love our work. Its time to act. Our little field has always struggled in the world around us – from harsh laws restricting our trade to always being viewed as just a massage therapist with extra training. Our joy comes from inside our practice helping people, and the outside world tries to take it away. This is what happens when you are effective at something. The Massage Therapy Body of Knowledge is now stepping all over our progress with the IASI. They have included Structural Integration as a type of massage. But the good news is the comments section is still open for another week. Please write them and set them straight – STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION IS NOT MASSAGE.

Step 1. Open this guide on how to fill out the survey.
Step 2. Then open and fill out the survey here.
Note: Make sure you complete Step 2 twice for both issues. Thanks!!

What is Rolfing Structural Integration with Ken Solberg

February 15, 2010

Ken Soldberg gives an indepth view about what SI is about and more. He speaks from 35+ years of experience and studied directly with the brilliant Dr. Ida Rolf. This is a great 9 minute clip filled with a lot of food for thought. SI is not just about the physicality of the form of the body, it is about the nature of our relationship to gravity and how the neural-fascial network of body and mind create our experience moment by moment. SI changes this experience to one of support, ease and efficiency. Our language is our life, as Dr. Rolf used to say.
